The Bahamas is a majestic and magnetic place. The fruit tastes sweeter. The time moves slower. The music hits deeper. The energy is transcendental. There is a reason why we as people seek places like this. We find ourselves drawn to them. Especially when in need of solace and freedom. The Bahamas was my first home. There is great power in knowing that when I return, I am walking the same land. Swimming in the same waters and eating the traditional foods of my ancestors. The old adage runs true, you can't know where you are going until you know where you have been.
As a child, I never cared much for fairy godmothers, wizards and all of that. But there is truly something magical about Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas. Whether you visit at night or during the day, the grounds are enchanting. Anything feels possible here. This is an oasis built around relaxation. The ornately decorated structures, plants, fountains, and lighting, the attention to detail is noticeable. The groundskeepers surely have their hands full.

As we ventured through the grounds, there was so much to see and do. We decided to visit the Aquarium. It was beautiful and interesting. The theme, naturally that of the 'mythical' Atlantis is celebrated in every way imaginable. Think paradise + ethereal + resort. With so many family members rarely together for this long, I ended up having a mini photo shoot. Gotta capture the moment when you can, right!

After running up an down the islands for a few days, we managed to squeeze in an afternoon at the beach. We went for the sun, fun and of course more photos. Off the top of my head, I can't remember which beach these photos were taken. But should you have the time do visit; Love Beach, Jaws Beach and Cable Beach for similar scenic photos.
After a few snaps...who am I kidding. I took 100's. We cleaned up and then went out for dinner. Just about every chain restaurant found stateside can be found in Nassau. Want something else? Well, there are many other options throughout the Island. Looking for something authentic? Take a look at my Eat page for a few great options. Need a place to stay? Check out the blog entry titled Welcome Home.
At this time I would like to dedicate this entry to my Grammy. We lost our matriarch in January of this year, yet it feels like just yesterday. It was on this trip, that we laid her to rest.
I miss you dearly and will love you always and forever. I hope you can see us now, and I pray we are making you proud. I do this in your honor. I will never forget what it means to have experienced your love. Rest in peace, my Queen. Rest easy Ophelia, job well done.
I love you always.
